The Color Fun Fest

I wish I could say that I don't remember the exact date in which I ran the 5k, because I haven't blogged about it. But with the big white rabbit hanging out in the photos I know for sure it was Easter Sunday. A couple months ago when I signed up for the run I didn't know it was going to be on Easter. And Easter is special to our family and we live to celebrate it. We were able to squeeze our family in and also run the 5k in the same day. I also signed Carlie and Dean up with me. it was a great price and I know they would enjoy it. We prepared our own white t-shirts with stickers thinking that they would stick... but that didn't happen. It was a great way for me to spend time with Carlie and Dean and I never knew that they loved running this much.
Before the 5K begins there is a fun concert that goes on. Where they give out fun prizes and also allow you to throw your color up in the air. I was a little disappointed because you had to pay extra for a color packet for the kids. When I ran the Sacramento Color Run we received a bunch of swag for the same price! But the kids had fun anyways.
I am always surprised to see all the children running. But then again it is a 5K and Carlie told me that's what she usually runs in P.E.
Dean's goal during the run was to keep his tshirt WHITE... so he stayed out of the madness.
We found some horse stalls on our run and had to stop and take some pictures:
The race ended at sunset and we had an incredible view while throwing our color around.
I was also celebrating my new DOMAIN NAME!!!
I was completely covered from head to toe... and Dean found some color along the way.

Mason Jar Picnic with Kool-Aid Easy Mix

Lately I have had the urge to create a mason jar salad. When I went to Walmart to find mason jars I found a pack of twelve of them. They were such a great price that I decided I would make a mason jar picnic with the jars. I would have my mason jar Quinoa Salad, my Fruit Parfait as a dessert, and a refreshing drink made with KOOL-Aid Easy Mix. I chose KOOL-Aid Easy Mix because it is really easy and convenient to make. And I wanted this meal kit to be ready to take to a park or lake nearby.
As I said before I bought these twelve beautiful mason jars and I also was able to buy all of my ingredients at my local Walmart. I wanted to share with you my Mason Jar Quinoa Salad recipe:
2 Cups of Cooked Quinoa - cooled and fluffed with a fork
Cherry Tomatoes - washed and cut in half
1 Cucumber - washed and cut into cubes
1/3 Bunch of Fresh Parsley - I forgot the parsley and used cutting celery from my garden
1 Can of Garbanzo Beans - drained and rinsed
1/3 cup of Greek Dressing - you can always add more to your liking
Once you mix all of the ingredients in a bowl you can taste test to see if you need to add any more dressing or extra salt and pepper. After everything is mixed, I scoop a good portion into the mason jars with a measuring cup. Then set them in the fridge to chill.
For the mason jar dessert I created a Fruit Parfait:
2 Cups of Vanilla Yogurt
1 Cup of Granola
1 Cup of Sliced Strawberries
4 Tablespoons of Agave Nectar
With all of the ingredients I like to layer them in a specific order. I put a few tablespoons of yogurt on the very bottom. Then I scoop a tablespoon of granola and place it on top of the yogurt. Then the strawberries go on top. And finally I drizzle the agave nectar as my last ingredient.
The layered mason jar looks very appealing and delicious.
My beverage of choice for the mason jars was Kool-Aid Easy mix. I needed a quick, refreshing beverage the whole family would enjoy. And since this picnic was going to be held in my backyard, we were able to make it in a carafe right then and there. Just Add Water. You can make it in a pitcher or a glass. Makes 6 quarts or 3 pitchers.
My picnic meal was a success and I was able to make food and drinks for four people out of the twelve mason jars.
When I was at Walmart they were showcasing a demo on the KOOL-Aid Easy Mix. I walked up for a sample and I had a huge flashback to when I was a little girl and my mom would make us Tropical punch using a Kool-Aid packets. Now that the KOOL-Aid Easy Mix is available I can enjoy those memories with my children now. And you can to by checking out their items on the Walmart website!

Bowling Buddies

When Friday night came around and we didn't have our older kids with us, we all decided to go B O W L I N G.
I don't think I have told any of you before but my husband is kind of a bowler. He grew up in a bowling family. And our kids are destined to become pro bowlers. No joke. Before I met my husband Carlie & Dean were avid bowlers and they would bowl at least once or twice during the week on their own bowling league! Now I am not a bowler... I am a poor sport. And when I must bowl with my husband I get very discouraged. He can easily bowl over a 200, I try and get at least 100 with bumpers...just kidding on the bumpers. This time we made teams Boys vs Girls.
We also had Solin with us. Who was very intrigued with the bowling balls. She doesn't really now that she is a bowler by blood.
During my turn Solin would run up to me and follow along while I walked down the lane.
Turns out Solin is my little Good Luck Charm
Sometimes while I bowled we would hand Solin off to our friends. She loved it. Even though she was being passed around she was still the center of attention.
We have a rocking horse at home. She doesn't know how to climb up on the horse but when I placed her on this mechanical horsey she started to kick her legs as if she was riding. It comes natural to her.
Official Bowling Buddies:
After our games we noticed we had collected quit a few bowling balls. If you want to know the pink 8 pounder was mine!
We lasted until about 9:30 pm and that's when Solin knew it was her bedtime. This is when she only wants her mommy and it just makes me feel like the prize.
